Trip to Venice

2013 is the centenary of the death of John Millar Nicholson, one of the Island's most significant artists. In preparation for the 2013 exhibition a proposed expedition to Venice led by Chairman of MNH Trustees, Tony Pass.
Highlights to include:
Piazzo San Marco – a wonderful architectural and social space surrounded by glorious buildings, elegant shops and cafés
Basilica di San Marco – a blend of East and West creating one of Europe’s greatest buildings
Doges Palace – the official residence of the Venetian rulers
Museo Correr – housing the extensive collection of works of art bequeathed to the city by Teodoro Correr
Arsenale – the formal shipyard and naval depot that played a pivotal role in the naval supremacy that led to the flourishing of the Venetian Empire. We will also visit the nearby Museo Storico Navale, which houses naval artefacts
Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari – a vast 15th century Gothic church known for its magnificent works of art including masterpieces by Titian and Bellini and statuary by Donatello
Scuola Grande di San Rocco – A charitable confraternity with interiors by Tintoretto
Galleria dell’Accademia – The most important gallery of Venetian paintings housing the finest examples of art from the 14th to the 18th centuries including works by Tintoretto, Titian, Bellini, Veronese, Canaletto and Carpaccio
